LA BELLA DORMENTE NEL BOSCO

"Ingenious and Enchanting..The marionettes, from bird size to man size, are beautifully made and endlessly fascinating." - The New York Times

Ottorino Respighi originally premiered this delightful work for puppet actors supported by human voices in 1922; Vittorio Podrecca's renowned puppet theater troupe performed it around the world for many years. Lincoln Center Festival and Spoleto USA co-commissioned Twist to breathe fresh life into this Sleeping Beauty. Conductor Neal Goren leads a cast of seven singers, chorus and full orchestra from the pit while Twist's puppets fill the stage with whimsy and surprise. Composed by Ottorino Respighi, Libretto by Gian Bistolfi, Directed by Basil Twist.

"The often-superhuman-seeming human effort on display in productions like Mr. Twist's remains affecting and enchanting as much for it's magical effects as for it's literally hand-made quality" - The Wall Street Journal

"Magical staging, a breathtaking piece of theatrical wizardry, the puppets were bewitchingly characterful....if I had a few million bucks to spare, I'd build Twist a theatre in midtown Manhattan and turn him loose to do whatever he liked in collaboration with whomever he liked" - The Washington Post
